Don’s Daily Parable-Zip, Zero…OK-11/18/2013 In school, math - TopicsExpress

Don’s Daily Parable-Zip, Zero…OK-11/18/2013 In school, math was probably my worst subject, except for algebra, or chemistry. In fact, my chemistry teacher, Mrs. Gelber, told me that she would pass me if I promised never to take chemistry again. She was so nice. I wonder what she would have thought about me spending 10 years working in the refinery laboratory? In high school, I took General Math and my teacher was Mr. Tipps. He was really nice. One day, after class, he handed me my math test, which he had graded. At the top of the page, in red, was a check mark. I asked him what that meant. He said, “It simply means zip, zero…OK”? Now for someone to make a zero on a math test is just horrible. Don’t get me wrong, I can do simple math and I really can’t remember what was on that test, but I just didn’t try at any class. I was satisfied to just get by. Believe it or not, I went to Lee College for two semesters and did pretty well in everything. The English teacher that I had in high school, Noah Smith, turned out to be my English teacher at Lee College. I liked English and on one exam, I made the highest grade in the class. I almost fell out of my chair. When someone asks you, as a Christian, what do I have to do to be able to go to Heaven, what do you tell them? Do you give them a list of things that they must do, like give your money to the church, be a good person, never lie, never steal, never murder anyone, go to church every Sunday, or to treat people right? If you do, according to God’s Word, the Bible, you are wrong. The Bible says that salvation comes by grace, not by works, lest any person could boast. In other words, Jesus’ death on the cross was meaningless, if we could earn our way into Heaven. You see, when we accept what Jesus did for us on the cross, and are filled with His Holy Spirit, we will want to do good works because our heart has been changed. We will love everyone and want to help them. We will want to attend church to learn more about this Jesus who loved us so much. We will give our money because our hearts are filled with generosity and want to help the church be able to help others and to spread the gospel. You see, we do good works because our hearts have been changed and we love the way Jesus loved. So, if we ask the Lord what we must do to be saved, He will tell you, “Zip, Zero….OK”? Just accept my Son, Jesus and what He did for you on the cross. God bless you.
