Don’t Lie Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to each other. You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before. NCV As Believers, we have a new life in Christ. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Colossae, he listed an array of things not to do, but he addressed lying separately. Why would he address it separately? Because it is critical, even dangerous – we are to hate lying – Proverbs 13:5 says that a righteous man hates lying. Why should we hate it? Because lying destroys relationships and causes mistrust. Once trust is lost, it is very difficult to regain – if ever regained. Approach lying with the same passion Jesus had when he addressed the lying religious leaders; He said they were like the devil and that the devil “…was a murderer from the beginning and was against the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he shows what he is really like, because he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). So do not lie to one another, even with little ‘white lies.’ After all, the Scripture says that it is the little foxes that spoil the vine, and a little leaven will cause the whole lump of dough to rise (Song of Solomon 2:15, 1 Corinthians 5:6). Furthermore, Numbers 32:23 tells us that our sin will find us out…and the devil will make certain that it does.
