Door-to-door Scams in Southeast Calgary We have received multiple reports about a man going door-to-door and asking for money in the neighbourhoods of Douglasglen and Quarry Park between Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday, June 19, 2014. In many cases, the suspect told residents that he had been locked out of his nearby residence and that he needed cash for a locksmith. In one incident, the suspect asked for a sum of money from an elderly victim and when he opened his wallet, the suspect grabbed a large amount of cash and fled the area. Police believe the same person may be responsible for several of these incidents. The suspect is described as Caucasian, 20 to 30 years old, 5’7” to 5’9” tall and 175 lbs. He was seen wearing a multi-coloured baseball hat, black shirt, blue jeans and ‘DC’ shoes. CPS is reminding Calgarians to be vigilant and to use the following tips to avoid door-to-door scams: • Never allow anyone you don’t know into your home. It’s easier to close the door on them before they are inside than it is to get them out of your home once they’re in. • Never give cash upfront to someone that you believe to be giving false information. • Report any suspicious persons to police by calling (403) 266-1234. Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to call Sgt. Garth Kowalyk of District 8 at 403-428-6800 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods: TALK: 1-800-222-8477 TYPE: tttTIPS TEXT: tttTIPS to 274637
