Dorothy has a question: I am wondering if anyone is taking Armour - TopicsExpress

Dorothy has a question: I am wondering if anyone is taking Armour or any other alternative (besides Synthroid/Levo) after a thyroid cancer diagnosis and TT. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2007, and refused to take meds (I am hard headed, dont like pills and I thought I knew better) then was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in Feb 2012 and had a TT in March of that same year. In June of 2012 I went through RAI treatment and have been on Synthroid ever since, the dose increased and increased every couple of months until in April of 2013 they added .25 of Cytomel as well. In February of 2014 I went through another RAI treatment for tissue that they are seeing on an US and referring to as residual thyroid tissue yet the scans never change. I am now taking 325 Synthroid and the .25 Cytomel every day. My TSH is suppressed (less than 1) which is where it should be after the TT, my antibodies are low, my T4 and T3 are normal and yet at my last 3 month appointment I had gained 18 pounds in 4 months. I dont eat horribly, walk daily, and dont think that I could even deliberately eat enough food to gain 18 pounds in 4 months. She checked my cortisol thinking it might be that, its normal. Liver and kidney functions are normal. Glucose levels are normal. Yet the weight keeps packing on. I would love to hear from others that are post TT after cancer diagnosis and hear what you are doing, what works, what doesnt, etc...
