Why… Dostup CHELYABINSK News Agency The All-Russian Social Organization Molodaya Gvardiya Edinoy Rossii reacted to the collective petition to the Prosecutor-General of Russia requesting an investigation into – according to the petitioners – possible crimes committed by the Russian authorities during the armed conflict with Georgia in August 2008, by posting a list of the country’s enemies on their website, reports a correspondent for Dostup News Agency. On the list are those who openly signed the petition to the Prosecutor-General. (gw2008.ru/index.php?listing&p=4) The response by Molodaya Gvardiya says, among other things: “That piece of idle jotting, which announced that it was collecting signatures to it on the Net, managed to garner 195 sour autographs out of all Russia’s millions on the evening of August 7. Incidentally, although it is referred to as ‘a plea by the citizens of Russia’, about a quarter of the signatories are Georgians. On the night of August 8, 2008, Georgian forces attacked South Ossetia and destroyed part of its capital Tskhinvali. Russia, to protect the South Ossetians, many of whom had taken Russian citizenship, sent troops into the republic, and after five days of fighting ousted the Georgian forces from the region.
