Dr. Clay K. Risser D.O. died at the age of 105 at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa Iowa in 2004. Dr. Clay K. Risser D.O. was born on August 3 1899, on a farm near West Point Iowa to Jona George Risser and Ella (Claypoole) Risser. At age 7 his family moved to Danville where his father ran a general store. During his youth Clay helped in the store and made deliveries with the horse and wagon. His early college career at Iowa Wesleyan College was interrupted in 1917 when he enlisted in the Army. After the war he returned to his education attending the University of Iowa prior to receiving his degree as a Physician from Kirksville (Missouri) College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1929 he arrived in Maquoketa. Clay and the townspeople immediately began a relationship in which he was Doctor Risser to almost everyone. He had a private practice and later joined Medical Associates Clinic until his retirement. He was an important person to many generations of Iowa farmers and merchants. He was their doctor but also their friend and confidant. He retired after 50 years of practice and delivering over 1000 babies.
