Dr. Ken Ruettgers, just inducted into Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame (see previous post), in recent years has taught sociology at Central Oregon Community College, see pic below. He has also coached football at Sisters High School. Twenty years ago, while the starting left tackle for the Packers, Kenny called me to say he had read and enjoyed my novel Deadline. We developed a friendship and soon he invited Nanci and I to come to Lambeau field in Green Bay and sit with his wife Sheryl in the players family section, and watch him play. Nanci, a major NFL fan, did not have to pray about this very long before saying yes. :) Ken took us to the very impressive Packer Hall of Fame, the same one he is part of on Saturday. On that same visit, he took me down to the locker room, walked me to Reggie Whites locker and put Reggies shoulder pads on me, etc. I spoke in Packer chapel, meeting Reggie and others. The next year Ken kindly gave us the wall hanging below, signed by him and four other Packers. Thats Ken in middle, blocking the 49er. After Ken retired we went to a few other Packer games with him and Sheryl, once with our daughters in San Francisco, where I spoke at team chapel again. Ken is one of those athletes who would speak up for Jesus and who set the example for his teammates of integrity, a work ethic and devotion to family and his Lord. He was deeply respected by his teammates and coaches, and now by his students. Well done, Ken! wearegreenbay/1fulltext-sports/d/story/green-ruettgers-inducted-into-packers-hall-of-fame/61120/IXL5vZeYwEKnMgEq0rDHlQ
