Dr. Robert L. Williams, a formational theorist, developed the 50 item BPQ (Black Personality Questionnaire) for the valid assessment of the Black personality construct… “For the BPQ, six subsets of Black Awareness behavioral response tendencies were employed: 1) Pro-White responses indicate acceptance and approval of the White standard and Whites in general; 2) Anti-Black responses exhibit negativism towards a Black or self-affirmative orientation; 3) Anti-White responses indicate a negation of Whiteness and White orientation; 4) Pro-Black responses indicate both Black and self-identity (personal) and collective Black identity; 5) Pan-African responses indicate and orientation toward the plight of all African people (continental and diasporan); 6) Third World responses indicate an orientation toward the plight of all oppressed people regardless of race.
