I just sent the mayor an email: Dear Mayor Seiler, It has come to the attention of the nation, if not the world, that your city has passed an ordinance forbidding anyone of feeding the homeless, and that those who do so are being arrested. There is a great outrage directed at your city as a result. I personally know of a number of educated professionals, in the specific area of law, who are highly agitated by this, as am I. What will happen, if your city does not lift the ban on this immediately, is that your city will be sued, you personally will be sued, the police department will be sued, and each police officer individually will be sued. I am inclined to prepare that lawsuit myself. Consider this fair warning that unless your city does something immediately, the situation can only get worse, and it will potentially cost the city a great deal of avoidable expense, and also will cost yourself and others a great deal of expense, not to mention the time involved in defending a major lawsuit. In my capacity as a representative of the public at large, I highly encourage you to consider the ramifications of what is being done in your city.
