Draw Near to the Brokenhearted “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (NKJV) If God is near to the brokenhearted, we are to be near also. Not distant. Not giving people space so they can heal. God is near to them and doesn’t leave them alone. The most difficult time in our lives is when we have experienced a loss and sadly these can be the most loneliest times. Often we distance ourselves because we don’t know what to say to someone that is hurting, when it is not always what we say that brings comfort. It is our presence, our smile, our warm hugs, and the sound of our voice that can bring loads of comfort to others. Make a list of every person in your life that has experienced a loss of some kind. Maybe they lost a loved one, lost their job, lost a long time friend, lost a marriage due to a divorce, lost custody of their children, lost their home to foreclosure, lost many years due to being incarcerated, or lost their business. List their names and make a point to draw near to them. Prayer: Father, I pray for every person that I have listed that are suffering from a broken heart. Lord, I pray that You comfort them. Heal and strengthen their heart. Help them get through this difficult time in their life. Help me not to distance myself or leave them to mourn alone. Help me always remember to draw near.
