Draw nearer to God (Psalm 148:1-14) (June 30-2013) People misunderstand my eating habit. I am not a vegetarian. I only don’t want to eat any meat. I don’t like vegetable a lot, either. One of the vegetables which I don’t like is a carrot. However, because of my health problem, I started to eat carrots every day. For the last three months, the amount of carrots that I ate would surpass the amount of carrots that I ate for my whole life. In the beginning of eating carrots, I didn’t like to eat; however, I became to like to eat carrots. Now, I love to eat carrots. The carrot is the good vegetable for our body. One of the best vegetables for our health is the carrot. The carrot has the extraordinary amount of beta-carotene and 1/6 of beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A. When the vitamin A is insufficient, vision decline, night blindness, anemia, and xerophthalmia can be occurred. Therefore, carrot can be the best vegetable for our eyes. Beta-carotene is the powerful anti-oxidant to suppress the cell damage and cell aging. Also, it neutralizes the cancer-causing material and the poisonous material. Finally, it is good for the immune system. The carrot is good for the people who catch a cold. When people have anemia, some doctors recommended taking animal liver. However, the animal liver has higher cholesterol, so it is better to take carrots for anemia. The carrot also has folic acid which is good for preventing melancholia, dementia, and mental diseases. I like to recommend eating carrots for all of you. You might say, “I don’t like to eat carrots.” Just eat for you and you might like them like me. If you eat carrots every day, your eyes, your skin, and your mind will be clearer and prettier. From today’s Bible verses, we can clearly know who the holy people are. The holy people are the “ones who are closer to God.” I urge you to be closer to God. The holy people are not the ones who come to God mandatorily but the ones who come to God sincerely and who loves God. You might say, “I don’t feel anything about God.” If you are closer to anything in this world, you will like it. Without trying to be closer to God, you will not know God and you will not like God. If you are closer to God, you will become to like God. What will be beneficial to us if we are closer to God? First of all, your spirit will be enlightened. Heaven, earth, and all creatures are supposed to praise God. We are made to praise God. God commanded us to praise him and we were created. God gave a decree that will never pass away. Praise cannot be by the choice, destiny, or force. Sometimes, by singing the hymnal even if we don’t want to sing, our spirit can be enlightened. However, praise comes naturally from the enlightened spirit. It is clear when we are closer to God, our spirit definitely becomes to enlighten. Through my spiritual experience, when I was not closer to God, my spirit was darkened. When I was closer to God, my spirit was enlightened and I could praise God. I ask you to draw closer to God. Your spirit will be enlightened and your sorrow, depression, and gloomy feeling will be disappeared. Secondly, when you are closer to God, you will have a power from God. In verse 14, it was written, “He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD.” The horn stands for the images of power and glory. “Moses” is the one of Michelangelo’s famous sculptures. He made two horns on the top of Moses’ head not because of his imagination but because of the Bible which he used. At that time, Roman Catholics used Latin Vulgate which was translated by Jerome. Jerome changed many God’s words when he translated to Latin. For example, in Matthew chapter 3, the word “repent” was translated to the word “do penance.” Also, in Exodus 24:29, the word “karan” (which is shining) was translated to the word “keren “(which is horn) when Moses’ face was shining. Therefore, people described Moses as a man with horns. Anyway, the horn is the image of power and glory. When God has raised up for his people a horn, his people start to have the power and glory from God. God’s people are not the people who use their own power or worldly power or the people who are glorified in this world. God’s people are the ones to be raised by God. Through my spiritual experiences, my true and sincere confession is this: I am who I am by God’s grace. We are to be thankful and praise God. We know this clearly. Let’s go near to God and God will rise up for his people with horns. He will give us power and glory. Please don’t say like this: even though I know that carrots are good for our health, however, I don’t like them and I cannot help it. I do not agree with you. If you start to eat carrots for your health, you will like them. In Korean Bible, today’s Bible verses in Chapter 148 are ended with “Hallelujah.” What word matches with hallelujah? It is “Amen” which means that I believe it will be accomplished as you say. Amen means “it it totally true.” I pray that all of you come closer to God and God rises up with horns in your life. Please don’t be the people who come to church mandatorily. Who is God? Who are the holy people? The holy people are the one who come near to God. They will love God, their spirit will be enlightened, and God will rise up with horns.
