Drawing for Free - The Art Studio - Thursdays. The Art Studio is a unique service for artists who live with mental illness. The studio offers a safe creative space where artists living with mental illness can pursue their art, which otherwise might be limited by their illness or the poverty with which mental illness is often associated. The Art Studio is a partnership between Family Services à la famille Ottawa, Canadian Mental Health Association – Ottawa Branch, Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, Hintonburg Community Centre, City of Ottawa Community Arts Program, and Psychiatric Survivors of Ottawa. The Art Studio is open on Thursdays from 12 to 3 pm, on a drop-in basis, at 1064 Wellington Street West (in the Hintonburg Community Centre). Anyone who lives with a mental illness can come to paint or draw and discuss the creative process. We provide art supplies and bus tickets. Occasionally, we offer workshops on topics like multi-media work, framing, or the business of art. Space in the studio is limited. There is room for 12 artists at any one time. If the studio is full when you arrive, you have the option to sign in and wait for a space to come available.
