Driver thanks well-wishers The driver of one of the buses involved in yesterday’s accident at Stanley in County Durham has thanked people who have been in touch to send him their kind wishes. Paul Stephenson, 54, of Annfield Plain, County Durham, was driving the Go North East double deck bus yesterday morning when it was involved in a collision with another bus. Emergency service teams worked for two hours to remove him from his cab. Paul, who has been a driver with Go North East for more than 15 years, said: “I’m really grateful to the firefighters, police and paramedics who came to my assistance – they did a great job in difficult circumstances. “And I’d like to thank everyone for their best wishes and support.” Go North East’s passengers have taken to the company’s Facebook and Twitter pages to send Paul their best wishes and thank him for the actions he took before the accident. Kevin Carr, managing director of Go North East, said: “I’d like to thank the emergency services and passers-by who came to the aid of the drivers and passengers yesterday. My thoughts are with all those who were injured yesterday and I send them my best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
