Drivers could be fined more than once if caught breaking the law - TopicsExpress

Drivers could be fined more than once if caught breaking the law by new point-to-point speed cameras on South Australian roads. They cameras are about to start operating on a 13-kilometre stretch of Dukes Highway between Coonalpyn and Kiki and a 51-kilometre stretch of Port Wakefield Road between Two Wells and Port Wakefield. The cameras measure the time a driver took to cover the distance and calculate if they exceeded the speed limit to do so. Road Safety Minister Tony Piccolo says motorists could be fined more than once as the camera will determine if they were speeding when the passed it, as well as calculating if they committed a point-to-point offence. Its a fixed camera, it takes and records your speed there so if you break the law there youll get an expiation notice, he said. If you break the law at the end you get an expiation notice, but if you break the law in between you get an expiation notice so this is designed to make sure that you actually are doing the right speed in that section of road. The cameras will be turned on next week. abc.net.au/news/2014-07-07/speed-cameras-multiple-driver-infringements/5577258
