Last year I got to ride Pie for the day and it was fun. I learned to squeeze the horse with my legs to make it walk, and how to clean and brush a horse. I learned to say WOO to stop a horse. I like horses! I like them because they are fast and pretty. Please pick me! Entry #2 I would like to submit the following story for my daughter, Olivia, age 7, towards her entry into the Pony for Christmas contest; Since being referred and joining PA 2 years ago, my daughter has found riding to be her secret passion but more importantly, I have witnessed that it has also been emotionally and sociologically therapeutic for her in light of the ongoing parental separation. When asked what she wants to do with our time together, when given a choice, she always wants to go riding. I do my best to have my daughter attend some lessons and a couple of shows regardless of the fact that I am on a limited budget and that we live in Orleans and travel close to an hour each way in order to participate. Even with these challenges, my daughter continually talks to myself, extended family and friends at school about the horses at PA; which ones are her favorites because they listen to her and the ones that don’t, lessons as to what she’s learn and accomplished, and refers to riding within her homework at school at every opportunity. I’ve also tired of having to be designated the “horse” while Olivia practices on my back what she’s learned from our last visit/lesson. She’s proudly displays the ribbons that she’s garnered from attending the few shows we were able too and is determined to do well by learning to cantor, run and jump a pole as her next challenges. Last August for her 7th birthday, she demanded that her birthday party was held at PA. Thanks to you and the staff at PA, her wish came true. Immediately following that day, she had requested that her next birthday party must be held at PA again! In light of my limited budget and time constraints, I’ve offer to buy her a cellphone, Ipod or a puppy to satisfy her craving for an animal. Olivia has consistently turned me down as her dream is to own a pony. In telling her we don’t have the capacity to buy, nevertheless keep a pony, her immediate response was that she will work for it and she’ll keep the pony in her room. She has actively sold lemonade and cookies throughout each summer and has saved the money she’s receives from various sources (ie. toothfairy, grandparents, lemonade stand, etc) To date, she has earned $95. I encourage her to continue her efforts but don’t have the heart to tell her that her dream is unattainable. We are thankful to Veronica, Eva and the PA staff whom have been kind and patient with us as we learn the sport based on our limited time spent there. For that, Olivia has presented hand-drawn pictures and crafts to show her affection to the owners, staff showing her appreciation. If my daughter was to be chosen, she would be so proud and determined to go to PA stables at every opportunity to be with and take care of her horse and continue learning to ride. If my daughter was to be chosen, I would be a grateful parent who see’s the difference that riding brings to my daughter. Entry #3 My name is Solomon. I am 6 years old and would like my own pony. I have two older sisters aged 12 and 10 who always take care of me. I love when they play with me, but it is always the games they like. Whenever I try something new and am really excited to tell them all about it, they always say, “Solomon, we did that when we were your age. It was fun.” It kind of feels like everything I ever do has been done before at my house. But now I have a chance to have my very own pony. Nobody at my house has ever had their own pony - not even my dad and he grew up on a farm. Every weekend we go to a farmer’s market or somewhere outdoors. We see all kinds of animals, but horses are my favorite because they are fast runners just like me. I will visit my pony every week and take very good care of him. I will brush him carefully and feed him carrots when he does a good job. When we get to know each other very well I will ride him. Maybe my sisters can take pictures of me and my pony and mom can hang them in my room. I am so excited. I really, really want my very own pony. https://facebook/events/565291450272677/
