Due to recent events, I feel the need to make this rant. So bear with me please. Retail workers are human beings. I cant speak for other companies, but at the theater where I work, we work hard to make sure the guest is happy and has a pleasant experience. If you are blatantly rude to an employee for something beyond their control, then you are a bitter, ignorant person. Most of us are busting our asses to keep the lines moving during rush, and to get the customers what they need. Its very frantic, its chaotic, its easy to mess up sometimes. You being rude, or even straight up MEAN to any employee does not help anything at all. You are just bullying somebody who makes minimum wage or barely higher, yet are still doing their very best to serve you. Ask to see a manager and speak with them if you have a complaint. They are more qualified to analyze the situation and help fix the issue. Even then, being rude is pointless. The manager is trying just as hard to create a good customer experience and trust me, they WANT (for the most part, like I said, we are all human) to help you in any way they can. So if you have ever been blatantly rude to an employee for something beyond their control, or for a petty mistake, then you should seriously be ashamed of yourself. The event that spawned this rant: Friday, Im lead in concessions. We are rushed, like we were frequently for most of the day. A coworker of mine, whom had been working all day (several hours before I got their), had just finished her shift. Her drawer had been taken by a manager, her computer was logged out, and she was stocking her candy drawer so she could leave and go home. Keep in mind she had worked all day long, and shes a very nice girl, and is also new at the theater. Maybe her 3rd or 4th shift tops. A man walks up to her, and she politely tells him Im sorry sir but I am closed here, to which he replies With these long lines, thats awful customer service (and im paraphrasing best I can at this point, because I dont remember much as I got very mad very quickly), and I quickly stood up for her because I could tell she didnt know how to react to a rude customer, and said Actually, she has been working all day and now her shift is over. Thats why shes closed. That is not poor customer service.. I was keeping my composure for the most part but I did not say it in a friendly voice. He had nothing to say but Oh as he walked to the back of a line. End rant.
