Due to scheduling conflicts the Intermediate IBI/ABA Curriculum Workshop has been moved to December 7 & 14. Or more information email the B.E.S.T. at BEST.Sandeelee@gmail Intermediate Curriculum in ABA/IBI Programming Dates: Saturday, Dec 7 & 14, 2013 Time: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days The two-day intermediate curriculum workshop will focus on teaching strategies to address higher level language skills (attributes, prepositions, verb tense, sentence formation), academic skills (letter- sound correspondence, early literacy, comprehension in literacy, quantities, basic computational skills) and concept development (categorization, temporal concepts, same/different). Participants should be familiar with discrete-trial training prior to registering for this workshop. Early bird registration before October 30, 2013: $200.00 Registration fee after October 30, 2013: $240.00 iPad Applications and Computer Assisted Instruction Date: Saturday November 9, 2013 Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Many of the students with whom we work own an iPad. This workshop will teach participants how to capitalize on the iPad’s functionality as a source of instructional support. Participants will learn the pros and cons of various applications. Participants will learn to use the iPad to teach communication skills, self-regulation, and basic academics. This workshop will be particularly useful for those working with non-verbal children. Date: Saturday November 9, 2013 Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Early bird registration before October 28, 2013: $100.00 Registration after October 28, 2013: $120.00 Addressing Challenging Behaviours of Children with Autism & other Special Needs Dates: Saturday, November 23, 2013 Time: 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. This two-part workshop will do more than just teach participants to manage challenging behaviours including, but not limited to, aggression, self-injury, pica, stereotypic (self-stimulatory) behaviours, and destruction. The emphasis in this workshop is on the identification of the function of the behaviour. All behaviour, even those we deem inappropriate, serve a function. Participants will learn how to conduct a functional analysis of the behaviour (not just an ABC chart), identify appropriate replacement behaviours, and teach functional communication in order to create meaningful behaviour change that maintains over time.
