During the Summer Semester of 2014, KOPIN once again offers its course “Global Campus – Introduction to International Development Cooperation”, within the framework of the EC co-funded project Global Campus. This course aims at providing students with a sound knowledge foundation concerning International Development, with a focus on issues such as human rights, global poverty, social justice and sustainable development. Through both lectures focusing on theory as well as a practical workshop approach, this course will provide students with a set of instruments in order to a build a critical understanding of global issues and to undertake an informed and creative engagement in issues related to development within their own society. The course will be facilitated by representatives of both academia and civil society (NGOs) who are experts in human rights and development, and will provide a wide perspective on a number of issues pertinent to global social justice. Attendance is not only recommended for those students already enrolled in related subjects (e.g. International Relations, European Studies), but to all University students interested in human rights and poverty issues, especially to those planning to undertake an international experience in developing countries. This semester, the course comprises of seven theoretical lectures and a final two-day seminar (with overnight stay). The attendance to the seminar will be granted only to those attending at least six lectures. The programme of the course is scheduled as follows: 19/02 – Concepts of Development – Stefano Moncada 26/02 – Forced Migration: a gendered process - Dr Maria Pisani 05/03 – Gender, Development and Human Rights – Dr Ruth Baldacchino 12/03 – Institutions for Development – Dr Anna Khakee 26/03 – Aid and Development – Stefano Moncada 02/04 – Climate Change and Development - Stefano Moncada 09/04 – Campaigning for Social Change – Marie Briguglio 11&12/04 – Seminar: Project Development & Management in the Context of International Development Cooperation – KOPIN (venue of the seminar to be confirmed) Classes will take place every Wednesday, between 12am and 2pm.
