During the month of December we are looking at the prophecies concerning Christ in the Old Testament and the fulfillment in the New Testament. Today’s Old Testament prophecy comes from Is. 35:5-6 and its fulfillment is in Luke 7:22. Prophesy -Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy. Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. Fulfillment - So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. John the Baptist was in jail when he sent some disciples to question Jesus. Their question was: “are you the one who is real is been waiting for or are we to wait for another?†Jesus’ response is found in Luke 7:22-23. This is a quote from Isaiah 35:5-6. This Isaiah passage is rooted in kingdom truth. God was speaking through Isaiah to Israel in answering the question “what will it be like in the kingdom of God?†Isaiah’s response is that everything will be changed. The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the lame will leap, and the mute will speak. All of the examples deal with physical healing. During the kingdom of God illness will not be an issue. But there will be another change and that is there will be a physical earthly change. Right now the earth is under a curse. After Adam and Eve sinned God changed the environment of the earth. No longer was it going to produce vegetables and fruit without also producing weeds and other kinds negative things. But when the kingdom comes that will all change again in the earth are we restored to its original abundance. So John was looking for that change and he wanted to make sure that Christ was the agent of change. Christ response was “Tell John what I am doing.†Is Christ your agent of change? Are you different today than you were yesterday?
