Dwelling on thew wrongs, and social problems we face I often lose the sense of awe I have for the planet and living beings that surround us. Then it occurs to me that I am too wrapped up in the stench of wrongs and selfish people that rob us of all human feelings for the sake of no one. I have repeated the reports of harm to the middle class whenever I can. But, my Dogs eyes catch mine and that feeling of unconditional love sinks in. My wife kisses my neck as she walks by and my rant becomes more loving. I hear those Sea lions on a foggy day like today and I smile and forget for a moment that people plot to ruin us daily. Yesterday a light breeze greets us as my daughter Julia E Hartwell and I walk with our dogs along the sands of King Salmon beach, just below my home and the world slows down a bit. We watch the gulls and spot a loon, as seals and sea lions cry out a tune, in the distance and whales pass out of sight, but there sure as there is a moon. I decide to walk off some turkey today as the fog went away and the Red Woods calls me like sirens called Ulysses. The brisk breeze stops, the air still, a sudden silence ensues, as I enter the Red Wood canopy. Yet, above my head three hundred feet up, the wind can be detected moving through these giants. I happily constitution under their warm embrace. A slight creaking sound emanates from the ancient trees as the breeze grows strong at that height. But where I stand it is silent, except the trees above and the breeze completely blocked out by the massive living conifers surrounding me. Bears are known to pick berries along this trail in autumn when they are ripe, so with caution I proceed. All this nature surrounds me and the walks brought back my sanity and these are the Earthly things that we all need for a taste of reality.
