Dylanism to get your Monday rolling: Last week I had to run an errands and wanted Dylan to be quiet, so I did what any good mom would do and allowed him to play his iTouch with headphones while Im running around town and I got reinforcements at Sonic by ordering his favorite, Cinnasnacks, and no drink thus insuring his mouth would stay dry and quiet. Now, many of you know, Dylan does not believe in bad people (reference bra shopping Dylanism at Walmart earlier this summer). Bad people meaning people who might hang out in the hosiery area of Walmart or people who might break into your car and steal his iTouch if he were to leave it in the car in plain sight, people Jeremy puts in jail regularly but according to Dylan, Jeremy is very mean most days because people wouldnt want to steal his iTouch. (That is a whole other Dylanism for later.) But this particular afternoon, after a couple of errands and Sonic run, I approached another errand that Dylan was required to leave his Cinnasnacks but could bring his beloved iTouch and come inside with me for a couple of minutes. As I began the social story about what is going to happen on this errand, Dylan freaked out, I CANT LEAVE MY CINNASNACKS IN THE CAR!!!! WHAT IF SOMEONE TAKES THEM?!? Of course, I started laughing because, well…Im a rock star mom and watching my kid FREAK about this particular thing is funny, but then he goes into an all out panic attack…hyperventilating and everything and I now am on the verge of pee-ing my pants because I did get the Happy Hour 1/2 price Sonic drink and think to myself, What the heck? How can he not shut up about his electronics to EVERYONE he meets, but not care if someone breaks into the car to steal his iTouch, but does seem to think people desperately want half eaten Sonic Cinnasnacks? Beyond all logic, and now very anxious to find a bathroom, I went into mom on a mission mode and put out the ultimatum, Dylan, you cannot bring food into this place. See the sign? You can however bring your iTouch. We wont be long. He reluctantly agreed. However, the rest of the errand (which was only 10 minutes but felt like an eternity) he bantered on and on about the Cinnasnacks being stolen. Now in desperate mom mode, I finally had enough and decided to feed his fantasy, I promise that if someone breaks the window out of our car and steals your Cinnasnack, I will take you to Sonic and order more. Dylans anxiety noticeably gone now said, Whew. I was so worried for a minute there.
