Dzikamai Mavhaire and his E10 and E15 petrol blend. His argument - TopicsExpress

Dzikamai Mavhaire and his E10 and E15 petrol blend. His argument is that we will spend less money on fuel imports, but if E15 (15% ethanol and 85% petrol) increases fuel consumption in a vehicle by up to 40%, simple village mathematics tells us the import bill will rise due to increased consumption. For most people here in Harare i know, their fuel bills doubled. So how is the state saving money on imports? In my case, my petrol engined car used to do about 200km per 20 litres urban driving, after the introduction of E10 and E15 i am down to 100km same quantity of fuel. A friend used to spend $50 a week on a Toyota Mark 2, now its down to 2 days. So how is Mavhaire saving here? And we are not even talking of damage to fuel injectors and the entire fuel system that E15 causes. And injectors are very expensive. For an Mercedes Benz ML you are looking at US$1 000 each, and an ML has 5! Nissan Motor Corporation of Japan gave its opinion to the Zim Energy regulator that it damages all Nissans assembled after 1996. Engine will not last more than 1 yr from date of using E15. Toyota Motor corporation has withdrawn all warranties on petrol engines sold in Zim. Most BMW 3 series coming from the UK and Audis have a permanent check light on...fuel! How exactly is Mavhaire saving money here? Maybe its Masvingonomics...at play here. But we know the biggest losers here, all petrol engined drivers. And the cost of loss is massive.
