E-ALERT: Saturday Afternoon UPDATE: I toured the entire fire - TopicsExpress

E-ALERT: Saturday Afternoon UPDATE: I toured the entire fire area with Chief Twohy of the Elfin Forest Harmony Grove Fire Department, who was kind enough to show me what was affected and what went down. I will share what I learned at some point soon, but suffice it to say, it was sobering. I’m personally humbled by what these guys had to go through, the risks they took to try to stop houses from burning all over this large area. They were successful on many levels despite the incredible odds. The evidence is right there in the hills by Bresa de Loma and Wilgen and other areas of the fire but it is also bitter sweet. Despite their best efforts, upwards of 37 homes were lost. There will be a community meeting soon called to provide more information (more info TBD) I saw lots of trucks clogging up the narrow roads… huge SDGE trucks, fire trucks, water trucks, crews watering down hots spots still smoking. I understand why they have been trying to keep people out of those areas. I have a bunch of pictures I’ll share later. EVACUATION UPDATE: So far, nothing has been officially announced but it will likely be soon and will happen in the entire fire area but for residents only. I can’t say exactly when. You’ll probably find out as soon as soon as we find out via the SD Emergency blasts and reverse 211 calls. I’ll send an alert out as soon as I get it for those who aren’t getting either alerts from the County. DISASTER RELIEF: We’re getting information from the County and will pass it along as soon as we get it. The first of which is attached. It shows a list of resources you might need as you begin the path to recovery. Angelique Hartman, who is a valuable member of the town council and also happens to live right where the fire came through, will be feeding us information as she learns it. Here is some info on the County Recovery Liaison’s office in San Marcos. Recovery Liaison Office Open at San Marcos Library The County has opened a Recovery Liaison Office at the County Library’s San Marcos branch, located at 2 Civic Center Drive. The office is open until 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, and it will be open from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. this weekend and into next week. The office can offer people whose homes were lost and damaged in the Cocos Fire help to obtain building permits, clear ash from swimming pools, safely handle food after a power outage and other recovery and rebuilding information. A behavioral health specialist will also be available. Please see this website for further information with resources available to fire victims: sdcountyrecovery/ ONE LAST NOTE: Please… there are scam artists that surface after these fires. They will show up as soon as the roads open to the public and will try to swindle people who are shell shocked and in an emotional state. They’ll pose as contractors (they’re not) and seem official. They’ll have fake magnetic signs on their trucks and fake badges. Don’t trust anyone that you don’t know personally or were referred to. More on this later.
