EA Sports Season Ticket Is Dead fifa14team EA Access was announced recently to mixed reactions from the gaming press and gamers alike and now we find out that Season Ticket is entering its final year. Initially there were comparisons between EA Access and EA’s Season Ticket, theyre similar services but with a few key differences. After downloading the EA Access hub to your Xbox One and paying the subscription fee of either $4.99 a month or $30 a year, you’ll have access to all of the EA games in the vault. The vault is like a repository for older EA games. You can download and play any of those games as much as you like as long as you keep your subscription active. In addition to that you’ll also receive up to 5 days early access for upcoming EA games, including FIFA 15, with your progress carrying over if you choose to purchase the full game later. Plus discount on digital purchases which means… FUT Packs. Sony declined EA’s offer to introduce this for the PS4 and Season Ticket still exists as of now on the playstation 3 and xbox 360, with the last chance to purchase a season ticket coming in march 2015 and subscriptions ending properly in march 2016. Season ticket would still look like the preferable option from a FIFA players point of view if only it was available on Next Gen. Through Season Ticket FIFA 15 will be available for three days of early access, it comes with 24 free premium gold FUT packs (A key factor in the Free Pack Project) and offers 20% discount on digital purchases, double the discount offered by EA Access. Compare that to a reported 6 hours of early access (note: this is still unconfirmed either way by EA), 10% discount on digital purchases and no free packs. I know which one Id rather have, regardless of the other games on offer. There have been concerns that this is the first step towards things like monetising demo’s with some controversy recently around there not being one for Madden 15. EA are offering Madden through EA access early, but it’s the full game, not a demo in the traditional sense and EA have stated that the decision to not have a Madden demo was not related to ea access in any way. Whether you believe that is up to you. The demo point is an interesting one, because whilst the idea of paying for a demo is a bit off, what I haven’t seen raised is the fact that people could use this service to trial FIFA properly. Ok you’re having to pay a few quid, but you could buy a month’s subscription and get access to FIFA in FULL, to decide if you like it. If you do then you buy the full game and keep your progress and if you don’t then you’ve saved yourself £35. If I was the kind of person that didn’t buy FIFA day one every year regardless then I would certainly prefer THAT as a test of a game, rather than a pre prepared demo, built by the developer where I don’t get to see 99.9% of the teams, and modes like clubs, or career mode, even if I pay a little bit for the privilege. Then you just need to buy a retail copy of the game to avoid being tied to their subscription. That of course all falls apart if the early access is as short as is currently being reported. Whilst its currently only available on Xbox One, EA must be confident that Sony will warm to the idea eventually to announce the end of season ticket already, assuming they see early access as something people will continue to pay for. EA access looks alright if you play more than just FIFA but it certainly isnt a like for like replacement for Season Ticket which is a shame as Season Ticket was pretty good value for FUT players. At least those that havent moved over to next gen can enjoy one more year of Season Ticket.
