EAGLE RELEASE: Today this bald eagle got to go back to the wild! This eagle was found on the ground, tangled up with another male, apparently following a territorial dispute about two weeks ago in Wabasha. Both eagles were taken to The Raptor Center for treatment. The other male was released last week after recovering from puncture wounds. Since this male had a ‘brood patch’ – an area of bare skin that develops when a bird is incubating eggs – they determined that he was likely the nesting male and defending his territory against the intruder. After recovering from his injuries, he was released in the same area where they had been rescued. National Eagle Center staff, Alison Springer, who had been part of the initial rescue team, got the honor of releasing this bald eagle back to the wild! Thanks to The Raptor Center for taking great care of all the birds they rehabilitate.
