EASTER MONDAY - Readings From the Lectionary, Book Of Common Prayer The Collect Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that we who celebrate with reverence the Paschal feast may be found worthy to attain to everlasting joys; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Psalm 16:8-11 8I have set Jehovah always before me: Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth; My flesh also shall dwell in safety. 10For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol; Neither wilt thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption. 11Thou wilt show me the path of life: In thy presence is fulness of joy; In thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 17 A Prayer of David. - OR - Psalm 118:19-24 19Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will enter into them, I will give thanks unto Jehovah. 20This is the gate of Jehovah; The righteous shall enter into it. 21I will give thanks unto thee; for thou hast answered me, And art become my salvation. 22The stone which the builders rejected Is become the head of the corner. 23This is Jehovahs doing; It is marvellous in our eyes. 24This is the day which Jehovah hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. New Testament Reading Acts 2:14,22-32 14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, `saying, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words. 22Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know; 23him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay: 24whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope: 27Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption. 28Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance. 29Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day. 30Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set `one upon his throne; 31he foreseeing `this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses. Gospel Reading Matthew 28:9-15 9And behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. 10Then saith Jesus unto them, Fear not: go tell my brethren that they depart into Galilee, and there shall they see me. 11Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told unto the chief priests all the things that were come to pass. 12And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave much money unto the soldiers, 13saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14And if this come to the governors ears, we will persuade him, and rid you of care. 15So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, `and continueth until this day. Preface of Easter But chiefly are we bound to praise thee for the glorious resurrection of thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the very Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and hath taken away the sin of the world; who by his death hath destroyed death, and by his rising to life again hath won for us everlasting life.
