EASTERN CAPE PREMIER PHUMULO MASUALLE COMMUNICATES OUTCOMES OF INAUGURAL SPECIAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING Bhisho: Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle has today, Thursday, 29 May 2014 presided over a Special Meeting of the newly appointed Executive Council of the Eastern Cape Government. The meeting acknowledged that Elections have come and gone and the clear mandate given by the people of the Eastern Cape to the ANC- led government is to implement a Programme that will ensure that we make the Eastern Cape, a better place than it was for its people before 1994Premier Masualle said. Informed by the vision of the National Development Plan ( NDP 2030) as well as its own provincial priorities emanating from the Manifesto, the Executive Council allocated responsibilities to its members through Cabinet committees that will lead government Programmes . 1. Governance and Administration Cabinet Committee - MEC Fikile Xasa 2.Social Transformation Cabinet Committee- MEC Helen Sauls- August... 3.Economic Development Cabinet Committee - MEC Mlibo- Qonoshiyane 4.Cabinet Budget Committee - MEC Sakhumzi Somyo. Strengthening partnerships with civil society requires co- ordination, the Executive Council also allocated responsibilities as follows: * The Eastern Cape Socio- Economic Consultative Council will be led by MEC- Mntungwa Nkomo Mlibo Qoboshiyana as its Board Chairperson. * The Eastern Cape Aids Council- Dr. Phumza Dyantyi... * Anti Corruption Forum - MEC Weziwe Tikana * Eastern Cape Human Resources Development Council by MEC Mandla Makupula. In line with ensuring that the Executive Council interacts and reaches out to the people of the Eastern Cape, the meeting deliberated on a Media and Communications plan that will guide public participation and Outreach Programmes. KEY PROGRAMMES FOR MAY AND JUNE Provincial Government Africa Day Celebrations in partnership with University of Fort Hare are scheduled for 29- 30 May 2014 as well the commemoration of Youth Month with the Provincial Youth Development Agency ; including the Remembrance of the Ingquza Massacre. On Sunday, 01 June 2014, in partnership with Umhlobo weNene, there will be a Prayer Session for Members of the Provincial Legislature with the clergy and faith based sector in East London. Th next EXCO meeting that will take stock of handover reports as well as unveiling the Provincial government plan of action and priorities is scheduled for the 5 th June 2014 followed by the State of the Province Address scheduled for 27 June 2014 after the State of the Nation address. Since assuming office, Premier Masualle has been involved in a consultative outreach Programme with the broader civil service Heads, the security agencies, the Public Service Commission ; the media and many other key stakeholders as part of managing the transition and ushering in the Provincial 5th Administration.
