EATING DISORDERS APPEAL! PLEASE HELP! As some of you will now know, we now have the keys to our new property which we will have for up to 3 years. Welcome to the first non-NHS and private eating disorders Centre in Scotland by a charity, No Bodies Perfect. We have accomplished a huge amount in over 4 years all over Scotland (since we started in May 2010) and beyond and now we can do much more! We will occupy 112 Byres Road, in Glasgows west end. It needs decorated and kitted out and as we posted last week, we will need some help with this financially, so we are now launching an fundraising appeal to help us raise £500 to help kit it out and buy some essential basics. We will now make a start on decorating it and making comfortable, however, we need to raise a bit of money. The Centre, although in Glasgow, is for all to use in Scotland and we will actively encourage others to use it too, whether this be for support groups, training courses and workshops, social activities, psychotherapy sessions, education, awareness events, drop-in, networking events, fundraising events, exhibitions, conferences, gatherings and lots more - we will have a space that many can use in conjunction with us! Our aim is not only to provide vital help and support to those experiencing eating disorders (which we currently do through support group meetings, social activities, educational groups, psychotherapy treatment, coaching, and lots more - see our website) but to educate others (general public, professionals, teachers, researchers, carers etc) about eating disorders, raise awareness of eating disorders generally and to challenge the stigma and stereotypes surrounding eating disorders and keep the topic of eating disorders alive so that people must sit up and help tackle eating disorders. The Centre will help No Bodies Perfect to do this even more, in conjunction with some of our friends, such as the Eating Disorders Community Interest Network Scotland and some others. Together we can all make a difference. We really hope you are with us on this! We rarely ask for donations, however, it is necessary as a registered charity that receives no funding at all from anywhere and which relies on the hard work and dedication of fantastic volunteers. We need to appeal for funds now to help us with kitting out the new property, decorating, buying chairs, some equipment, furniture, stationary and lots more. We really need your help! Our target is £500 over the next 2 weeks. Please please help if you can. Whether its £1, £5, £10 or more, every single penny counts and will contribute to improving the lives and providing support to those experiencing eating disorders. We have 2072 friends on this Facebook profile. Every single person reading this will have someone in their life that is experiencing some for of eating disorder or problem with food and eating, even if you dont know it or they havent told you. Thats a lot of people. Eating disorders are a serious mental health condition that affects the persons life in some many ways, often with debilitating consequences. Eating disorders are not really about food and eating but have a lot to do with self-esteem, feelings of worth and how someone feels about themselves - and we cant just eat or not eat - its much more complicated than that. Eating disorders also have the highest morbidity rate of all psychological conditions, with 10% of all people with eating disorders dying from either suicide or medical complications associated with their eating disorders. Thats a lot of people and it doesnt have to be like this!!
