EBOLA ALERT!!! The 1st case of Ebola viral disease (EVD)or Ebola hemorrhagic fever has been confirmed in Lagos. EVD was discovered in 1976 in democratic republic of Congo. The last fatal outbreak was in Uganda in 2000-2001 where it killed about 400 people. Once contacted about 90% will die making it one if d deadliest disease. The disease is contacted through contact with blood and body fluids of animals e.g bush meat, monkey, pigs, fruit bats etc. someone may say I dont eat any of this but contaminated food or contact with urine, stool, feaces can result in d disease. Human to human contact is also an established route of contacting d disease. Early symptoms of d disease include: fever, headache, joint pain, diarrhea, vomiting. So d disease may mimic malaria, typhoid, cholera etc. As d disease progresses d patient will develop wide spread bleeding from orifices (mouth, nose, ear, eyes, anus, skin), coma and death. No cure and vaccine for now however supportive treatment like iv fluids, pain killers, antibiotics, oxygen may help d patient. The key word therefore is prevention. The public is advised to maintain strict personal and environmental hygiene. So hand washing can save life. Avoid direct contact with bush meat and sick patients, wash fruits and vegetables, properly cook ur meat and report any of d above symptoms to d nearest health facility. Lets all be vigilant and wash those hands!!! Please, do not go near First Consultants hospital in Obalende, Lagos State! The first case of Ebola Virus has been reported there. A Liberian was said to have come to Nigeria with it. FYI: Ebola is deadlier than AIDS!!!Please. Kindly forward to others as I did.
