EBOLA & STREET CHILDREN; AN IMPENDING LOOM Sequel to the - TopicsExpress

EBOLA & STREET CHILDREN; AN IMPENDING LOOM Sequel to the generousity of Mr. Patrick Sawyer, Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is here with us in Nigeria, and regrettably so. As far as I know, Nigeria has no known cure for the disease; consequently we are left with the choice of containing the virus and the people effected while we pray for miraculous interventions from God on high. In other words, all we can do is stop the virus from spreading. Sadly, even in this regard, the government is lagging behind in her responsibilities. Save for Lagos, Rivers and Abuja, I do not think the other States are properly equipped to quickly identify and contain the virus if it finds its way to their territories. The various hospitals lack the equipments, specialty and manpower to tackle this situation; hence we are sitting on a keg of gun powder. Clearly, we are on our own. We are our own Messiahs so we need to prevent any contamination of any sorts. We need to avoid bodily and fluid contacts with almost everyone. We have been advised to stop indiscriminate handshakes and hugs. We were advised to be very mindful of the places we go and the people that touch us BUT how do we do all these with the presence of street children (road-side beggars) that run to hold us whenever we are walking along the road? Those beggars chase someone about and hold your hand all in a bid to solicit for alms. I think it is of UTMOST IMPORTANCE that the Government take the street children away from our roads/streets so they will not gleefully spread the virus when it comes to town. Kindly tell everyone that knows anyone that has the ears of the government/Ministry of Health that the presence of street children is a threat to containing the spread of Ebola.
