EDITORIAL HAVE YOU GIVEN UP ON GOONELLABAH? As Goonellabah cops it more and more each day, it seems most sit idle and keep hoping things will improve while continuing to listen to the same old representatives and decision-makers who clearly cannot get it sorted. It is time for a lot of those people to step down or to stop preventing others from putting forward or implementing solutions that may show real results. If not, it is time for the community to step up and take back the streets themselves. Things are going to get a lot worse before they have any chance of getting better the way things are going now. Any fool can see that yet we continue to hear the representatives positively spin anything and everything they can hoping that no-one will notice what is really going on. A meeting open to all members of the community is urgently needed. Any such meeting must include members of the public, business owners and operators (particularly security operators), local media representatives, Lismore City Council senior staff and Councillors, Lismore police senior officers and liaison officers, Housing NSW representatives, Centrelink representatives, representatives from the Department of Justice, our State MP and our Federal MP. If these people put their heads together for a few hours, publicly show support for common goals regardless of personal agendas or political motivations, establish a representative committee with sitting members elected by the community and begin designing and implementing policies, strategies and measures to target and reduce crime, real positive results will be inevitable. If such a meeting could be organised, seeking positive outcomes through a well supported representative committee, I sincerely believe that, with so much to offer already such as shopping facilities, sporting facilities and public facilities, Goonellabah could easily become one of the most popular suburbs in Australia to live in. It is time for serious change!!! Big Rob. #LismoreRadio youtu.be/mgmVOuLgFB0
