EDITORIAL PAY CUTS WILL NOT DEVELOP KENYA....STOPPING CORRUPTION WILL... The Jubilee government is worried by the increasing wage bill. The president said that the Government is spending Kshs 400Billion on salaries alone. The president and his deputy have taken a 20% pay cut while the Cabinet secretaries took 10% pay cut. This translates to about Kshs 43Million.If everyone is to take a 10% pay cut then it means the government will raise Kshs 40Billion.But since we are not all Cabinet Secretaries, assuming other Civil servants take a 5% pay cut,the Government will raise 20Billion....Is 20Billion the money the Government use to spur Development in Kenya...????? Any time from now the Kenya Ports Authority is set to destroy vehicles worth 4Billion,just because they were 8yrs old when imported. How many vehicles are on Kenyans road aged more than 8yrs old(thats since Year of Manufucture).I guess over 80%.Uganda has no restriction on the age of the car while importing. Why cant we auction the vehicles to Uganda and raise atleast the 4Billion??? Goldenberg scandal cost Kshs5.9Billion.Triton cost 7.6Billion.Anglo-Leasing cost about 3Billion..and many other more. The 20Billion that will be raised may be 2Billion will be lost to corruption. Corruption is the source of all problems that has bedeviled successive Government in Kenya.Pay cut is just a public relations exercise.
