EKPOMA STATE OF MIND If there was anything like a free style writing this will be it. So Ekpoma is located in Esan West of Edo State , a pretty small town to be honest with probably a few thousand people fed by economic activities of vast varieties. A town with a cultural heritage led by an Onogie. It consist also of a Local Government Chairman ruling the town. So Ekpoma is a University town providing over a thousand job opportunities for many natives and even foreigners and outsiders. The achievements of the institution cannot be over emphasized as the name speaks for It self. So a typical student’s lives revolves around staying on the school campus which depends on individual taste, others prefer to lodge outside campus (off k) as they say. Coming for classes as early as 7 am on some occasions and sometimes forgetting to eat, ‘the struggle’ for academic success they call it here, then getting to class and realizing you forgot feeding money at home. Probably after hours of class, you run out of stream and can’t take it anymore, then you step out of the class to take fresh air you then see a friend who buys you a drink to sustain you for some hours or probably some minutes. Classes are over for the day, you wait in line for the comrade bus in the desire to save N20 by not taking a bike , unlucky for you no comrade bus that day, you then walk to the school gates literally dragging your feets on the hilly way as you go. Taking a bike to town through ujoelen road to get some food stuff to eat for the day passing the bad road in front of Zonnes and nearly getting your white tee shirt soiled by the dirty water gathered in pot holes. The bike then decides to pass Momoh street to drop off the other passenger on the bike therefore maneuvering bad spots also on the road. You finally get to town buy some few food stuffs to eat , you take a bike to your hostel in ‘village’ and sluggishly prepare the rice probably concussion rice as they say. The need to see a friend in the school hostel for a difficult assignment comes up and you take the root down Ohi street down to the express way and take a shuttle to hostel, squeezed mercilessly because the girl next to you is fat or chubby as they refer to themselves. You then get a call from a friend to chill with them at ‘oceans bar’ along the express way after ujoelen extension which you turned down. The fun in the hostel life is eating with friends, you then join some room mates to eat indomie and garri , weird food I know. The temptation to join some peeps to club in supreme is pressing because it is a Friday night and they want to have fun but you turn it down and spend the night in the hostel eating the famous ‘mishy’ with some male/females friends and getting few drinks from supreme bar in school as the case maybe and strolling around the hostel premises then realizing you are broke for the week !!! Also to the police that are after boys that are just coming out from Formal Eco Bank now, Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, UBA, GTB Bank, who went to collect small control from their real real upside according to them. Shout out to the places that thrill us in ekpoma, shout out to the hostel peeps ,the supreme bar for causing numerous hangover and A4 too, to the ATM that save students financially, to the skaters that entertain our eyes, to the fast drivers that might probably hit the NDDC can by the hostel road, to the lights at night that don’t work that make students do things I can’t even talk about here. Shout out to the comrade bus for saving our N20 naira for not taking bike , to the popular hang out spot Zonnes , supreme, oceans bar, Zonnes ice cream for making ekpoma fun. Shout to the pot holes for reminding us this is africa , to the constant generator noises to make us realize we better pass our neighbours. Then finally to the leaders , SUG Government , the School Administration, to the AAU team on FB and twitter and finally to the Students, thanks for making AAU EKPOMA fun.
