November 8, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM Room 111 NH Abstract: While designing and building a web fed printing press in record time, an engineering team is faced with numerous challenges. This case study highlights how the team overcame the challenges, implemented numerous technology improvements, and eliminated the traditional line shaft drive. The talk centers on the control system and operator control interface. System control requirements, component selection, control system architecture, software development, and machine safety control will be discussed. Biography: Bill Buehler is President and Co-Founder of Foresight Automation Inc. He received his BS Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington in 1980. He has completed significant post-graduate work in Electrical and Computer Science Engineering at both University of Texas at Arlington and Oklahoma State University. He also has a BS Animal Science from Texas Tech University. Mr. Buehlers thirty year engineering career is highlighted by significant innovations in Control System Design and Software Development. Prior to founding Foresight Automation, Mr. Buehler served in the role of Design Engineer, Project Manager, and Corporate Engineering Manager and completed designs in areas such as flight controls, multi-axis motion control, process automation, industrial machine control, and programmable logic development. He is a member of the IEEE, a founding member of the Industrial Computing Society and the Phi Kappa Phi and Eta Kappa Nu Honor Societies.
