ELIAKIM REJECTED VAKIs APPLICATION By: Maivo Lafanama The Port Moresby District Court has rejected the application by Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki to set aside a warrant of arrest for the prime minister. Chief Magistrate Nerrie Eliakim handed down the decision yesterday afternoon . Eliakim said shes satisfied the court does not need to interfere with the functions of the police force after it issued the warrant. She said the Fraud Squad satisfied with its investigation into the Paraka matter therefore obtained the warrant that should put an end to investigations after questioning. She said statutory powers of the Commissioner was executed by Tom Kulunga therefore there is no need for Vaki to set aside the same warrant. The chief magistrate agreed with the ruling of the National Court on jurisdiction powers for the courts not to interfere with police. She also said, its for the interest of justice that she refuse the application.
