ELITISM & MASS POLITICAL CULTURISM: Reflections on Ekiti Saga. To those who do not understand the politics of Ekiti State. It is an insult to human reasoning to argue that the whole Ekiti collected rice to vote out Fayemi. The rice must have contained a formula of powerful magical magnitude to infect even those who did not eat it. Going by precedent & antecedent in the state so far, why & how did Fayose defeat the incumbency of Adeniyi Adebayo in the 2003 Elections? Was Fayose facing any Administrative Panel on misconduct when he contested the 2003 general elections? Will critics just try to unveil the Elixir behind a man who is the ONLY PERSON that has DEFEATED TWO INCUMBENT GOVERNORS AT TWO DIFFERENT GENERAL ELECTIONS? Have objective analysts tried to see what was missing in Kayode Fayemis 4 years of administration that cost him his re-election? Why do the people of Ekiti continue to shower encomium on a Man that is vociferously & indefatigably vilified in the social & traditional media? To what extent is the Conflict between Elitism & Mass Political Culturism in the State? Fayose & his style of politics is worthy to be studied. No doubt, Fayose & his concept of Stomach Infrastructure is an Erewon- antithetical to fundamental developmental structures. While the tranquilising drug of gradualism is essential to the consistent growth & development of every society, will it be safe to say that Fayose is that Man who combines the qualities of Moses & Joshua to take a State that has education as its only industry from a terra incognita toward an el dorado? Fayose is not the messiah. Is it that the people of Ekiti are so enthralled in the phantasmagoria theatrics of Fayose for over 8 years? The question of the legitimacy of an illegal regime should linger in our mind. While the eligibility of Fayose is still being contest in court, until the court speaks/rules, I hold the view that legitimacy is a state of mind & not a condition of legality.
