EMERGENCY - EBONY (MO), a rescue dog, needs us. This is a long story, but we want you to have all the facts. There are always sad cases in dog rescue; however we must all stay positive with the knowledge that we can help in most instances. This is MO. He is only 6 months old. His picture was taken this morning as one of our volunteers left him at a veterinarian surgical office. When MO was taken into You Lucky Dog Rescue as a pup, we noticed that he was having difficulty opening his mouth to the point where he could not properly eat, drink or pant to cool down in the hot summer weather. Veterinarian consults indicated that at some point in MO’s very young life, he had experienced blunt force trauma to his face that was so great in impact that it broke the orbital arch around his eye. As MO began to grow, and the break began to heal, a callus formed from the broken arch over the jawbone, effectively “locking” his jaw. Who knows what happened to cause this injury? It had to have been an extreme impact, but MO holds no grudges towards humans. In fact, he is one of the sweetest pups we have ever met, and we want him to have a chance at a great life. Without sponsorship, we proceeded with a “stretching” procedure to unlock the jaw. This procedure worked, temporarily. In an effort to avoid a much more invasive and expensive surgical procedure, we held hope that the “stretching” would work as a permanent solution. At today’s follow-up appointment we received the bad news that we anticipated through observation – the “stretching” procedure had failed. MO’s ability to use his jaw and open his mouth had reduced significantly. In a matter of days, he will most likely be unable to eat or drink. MO’s chance at quality of life now rests in an invasive surgical procedure to remove the callus. We cannot go forward with this procedure without your help. We MUST raise a minimum of $2500 to cover the costs. We want to give MO a chance. We hope you do too and will help sponsor this surgery.
