ENACT A LEGISLATION TO CURB RUSTLING, OLEMPAKA URGES By Joshua Chesire Sombre mood gripped Sirata village, Baringo South Sub County on Saturday when two slain residents were laid to rest after suspected rustlers attacked the village about a fortnight ago. The emotional mass ceremony was conducted in Loitip Primary thereafter they were buried in their respective homes. Leaders who attended the ceremony said they were tired with the menace that has bedevilled the area for decades and urged for stringent measures to end the vice. Amos Olempaka an activist gave one month ultimatum to the county assembly to enact a legislation to curb banditry. I am giving the assembly one month to enact a legislation that will see those victims of rustling compensated using the development fund of the ward the rustlers are coming from, said Olempaka. He demanded for restitution to the affected and threatened to take the government of Kenya to court if the residents are not compensated. So far more than 70 people within 7 years have been sent to their early graves. We are tired of burying our people each an every time. Enough is enough we cannot tolerate this anymore, asserted the activist. He added that there is need to empower Kenya Police Reservists citing the latest attack where the reservist acted swiftly . Also present in the function were Wesley Lekakimon (Area MCa), Simion Kirgoti (NHIF), Thomas letangule (IEBC) and William Tengecha (Human Rights) who urged for peace coexistence among the communities. I appeal to all people of good and county leadership will to support the unity initiatives against the vice, said Tengecha. Suspected rustlers from Tiaty attacked the sleepy village killing two, injuring a six-month pregnant mother and torching over 15 houses recently.
