ENGLISH Premiership clubside Tottenham Hotspurs have hired an English tutor for Flying Eagles midfielder Musa Yahaya to enable him communicate better with his team mates in an indication that they hope to hand him a starting shirt soon. In February this year, Yahaya, 17, one of the revelations of the recent U17 World Cup which Nigeria won in the United Arab Emirates, arrived in the UK where he signed for London club Spurs. Having signed him up on a youth contract, the north London Premiership giants loaned Yahaya out to Primera Liga side Celta Vigo for the rest of the season. At the beginning of the current season, Yahaya returned to London and began training with the team a first team place in the hope that he would get a starting place when he turns 18. Nicknamed Iniesta and Neymar by his Golden Eaglets team mates, Yahaya is a mercurial playmaker, with the capacity to go past opponents to the delight of watching fans. Babawo Mohammed, Yahayas agent, said the midfielder has been practicing with the Spurs development squad since July. He added that at the start of the exercise the player barely spoke English and could not understand basic instructions being passed by the coaches. Tottenham Hotspur have hired an English teacher for Musa Yahaya and the lady speaks Hausa and English, so it’s easy for Musa to understand what is being taught. She comes three times a week to tutor him.” Before now, he spoke only Hausa and little Nigerian pidgin English but he has improved now. During training, he wasn’t really understanding what they were telling him to do,” Mr Mohammed added. He pointed out that Spurs have adequately met all the needs of the ex Golden Eaglets star and the club is highly impressed with his performance on the pitch, Yahaya is currently staying at the Spurs club house and is transported from there to training each day. Tottenham Hotspur plan to continue to monitoring Yahaya closely until he becomes eligible to be granted a work permit. Apparently, the midfielder has cancelled the agreement with Celta Vigo, which had stipulated that the club will retain his sporting rights until he is 18.
