ENLARGE MY COAST By Pastor Muyiwa Motajo on 01/09/14 1st Chronicles 4:9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. From verse 1 of the bible referenced above, the bible describes a multitude of people as mere people who begat children and died. They had no impact on their generation. WE WILL NOT JUST BE A NUMBER! Brethren, these people had NOTHING to show for their time on this earth! What about us? Ten years after our death, will it matter that we have lived? Are we impacting our community in a positive way? Everyone has talents that God has deposited in us. In verse 9 of 1st Chronicles, we were introduced to Jabez. The bible described him as an honorable man among his brethren. He was well respected, credible, and dependable. The dictionary describes “honorable” as someone with dignity, one who is highly respected and esteemable. But his mother named him “Jabez” meaning “sorrow” because she bore him with sorrow! Brethren, as honorable as he was, Jabez went about with a name that meant “sorrow”!!! This was the “BUT” I his life and it was his own mother who named him that way! Brethren, anger is a spirit. The words you say are POWERFUL. In your anger or distress, it is not good to speak because the power of life and death is in the tongue. In verse 10 of our bible reference above, we are told that Jabez called on the God of Israel: 1st Chronicles 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. He must’ve known that there was a limitation in his life and that the ONLY one who could remove it was God. Many people tell their problems to other people instead of God! BRETHREN, IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO TALK TO YOUR MAKER; THE ONE WHO HAS THE SOLUTION TO YOUR PROBLEM! The man at the pool of Bethesda was surrounded by friends. In Luke 8:43-48 is the account of the woman with the issue of blood. Brethren, the doctors most likely made a fortune by this woman’s ailment! She also must’ve invested a lot on feminine products! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PROBLEM IN THE HAND OF FRIENDS; BUT RATHER LEAVE THEM WITH GOD! In Genesis 32, Jacob was surrounded by his family but he knew he had a problem and ran away. The bible tells us he was left alone and wrestled with an angel and would not give up until he prevailed: Genesis 32:24 -28 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacobs thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Brethren, WHO EXACTLY ARE YOU TELLING YOUR PROBLEMS TO? Jabez prayed to God to enlarge his coast. He didn’t want to be a local champion. He recognized the power in the hand of God. If the hand of God is upon you, no one can be against you. Jabez knew the power of the devil and prayed that God should keep him from evil. The Almighty God granted him his request. Jabez was not a great prophet. He was remembered because of his prayers (not because he was honorable). He prayed for spiritual prosperity. Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge (not the head of his enemies). In 1st kings 4:29, the bible tells us that God granted him much more than he asked for: 1st Kings 4:29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. Jabez was not satisfied with the way he was even though he was honorable. Brethren, there is a place higher than where you are right now. GOD WILL NOT PUT YOU TO SHAME! Jabez wanted the fullness of God. 1st Samuel 1, Hannah was a woman whom the world had been tormenting. But she refused to take no for an answer. In verses 19 and 20, the bible tells us God granted her request. She then sang the following song to God in 1st Samuel 2: Hannah’ song: There is none holy as the Lord, there is none beside thee, neither is there any rock like our God, there is none holy as the Lord! THE ALMIGHTY GOD WILL GRANT EVERY OF YOUR REQUESTS AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SING LIKE HANNAH!!! Jabez prayed for the hand of God to be upon him and direct him. Brethren, when God directs you, YOU CAN NEVER MISS IT! Jabez also prayed that God should comfort him and deliver him from sin. Brethren, sin is very devastating. Sin can be as simple as not appreciating God. DEAL WITH THE ISSUE OF SIN (1st John 1:7-9)!!! God granted Jabez that which he requested. If you are not on the same page with God, he cannot grant you your request. As David danced and praised God, his wife (Micah) despised him and she never had a child! There is a song by Cece Winas titled “Alabaster Box”…. The words of that song says “I’ve come to pour my praise on him…you weren’t there the night he found me” [SEE THE ENTIRE LYRICS BELOW] Brethren, it is good to keep in mind that God ALWAYS has a replacement. So when you have the opportunity to do something for God, do it with gladness because God has a replacement ready. BY HIS GRACE, YOU WILL NOT BE REPLACED! Let us pray… PRAYERS 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. -Father, I repent of all my sins and those of my forefathers. I ask for forgiveness. Have mercy on me. It is of your mercy that I am not consumed. Don’t let your mercy expire in my life. Instead of judgment, let me have mercy! -Father, we thank you. We appreciate you. We give you glory, honor, and all the adoration due to your name [praise God because when you praise God, he comes down himself rather than send angels]. -Father, enlarge my coast. Let your hand be upon me and my family. Don’t let us suffer accident or calamity in the mighty name of Jesus. -Father, comfort me on every side. This year, let me experience your grace like never before in my life. -Father, this year, help me in every area. Give me rest. Let no man be able to prevail over me. Send help unto me.
