ENTHUSIASM Some close friends of mine have had the services of a live-in maid for more than 20 years. It’s not been the same maid for all that time; indeed there have been about 8 different maids over that time. The lady they have working for them now is called Ana. Two and a half years ago, Ana left her husband and three young children back in Philippines while she journeyed to Malaysia to take up her employment as a maid. Ana works long hours, 7 days a week and sends the majority of her earnings back to her family in Philippines. Ana visited her family for just a few weeks after her first 2-year contract, and now she has recently started her second 2-year contract. Without going into the exact figures, let me put things into perspective for some of my Australian friends… A full-time supermarket check-out operator (cashier) in Australia would earn more in a month than the average foreign maid in Malaysia would earn in a year. And yet, on those terms, Ana left her family and her country. Ana is amazing. She has a smile that lights up a room and her enthusiasm for serving and caring is endless. To meet Ana you wouldn’t get any sense that she’s anything other than happy and content. Ana is a Champion… an enthusiastic Champion! So, the next time you feel less than enthusiastic about going to work, or having to deal with a grumpy customer, or feeling disappointed about a loan not being approved by the bank; take a lesson from Ana. Make a choice to smile. Count your blessings and be thankful. Be enthusiastic about your life; about who you are and about the opportunities you have available to you. It works for Ana.
