ER Intern Lesson of the Day: When you call the Cardiology service - TopicsExpress

ER Intern Lesson of the Day: When you call the Cardiology service asking them to come interrogate the electrical device implanted in a patient (their pacemaker) to see if it is working properly, you should probably have at least looked at the electrical tracing of their heart (aka the EKG) before paging. Otherwise you look like a real dumb ass on the phone. Tomorrows lesson: Its poor form when the Cardiology fellow has to diagnose DKA because you got so excited over a mildly elevated troponin you failed to look at the rest of the type I diabetics lab work and identify their anion gap acidosis.
