EU, Member States and the Eastern Partnership countries against human trafficking issue ALDE MEP Justina Vitkauskaite Bernard said: “Over the last years Lithuania has established itself as an important hub for the trafficking of women from Eastern neighborhood countries to Western and Central European countries. From my point of view, in order to tackle it – and this does not only apply to Lithuania and other Member States but to the Eastern Partnership countries as well - the main effort should be aimed at creating or raising the awareness of the population in general. They need to be sensitized to the issue at hand and they need to see and understand the profile of the trafficking problem. Identifying the extent of the problem is only a first step. But it is a first step that can later lead us to solutions to effectively attack and tackle the issue of human trafficking. In Lithuania, but also in the EU in general and outside of the EU it is now time to act for everybody of us. The task is clear: the eradication of the slavery of the twenty-first century, human trafficking. And all of us should embark on this mission on all available levels – be it local, national or European.” alde.eu/press/press-and-release-news/press-release/article/eu-member-states-and-the-eastern-partnership-countries-against-human-trafficking-issue-42139/
