CONTEXT: Jesus Sermon on the Mount in AD 28 GOLDEN TEXT: Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock (Matthew 7:24). Wise or Foolish (vv. 24-27) CONCLUSION: Years ago, the federal government erected a multimillion-dollar courthouse in Philadelphia. The building was almost completed when inspectors noticed cracks in the brick facing the inner walls. Tests determined the building was beginning to tilt on its foundation. An extra $10 million was spent repairing the damage and providing adequate support for the building. The foundation is crucial in construction and in life. The wise build upon a rock, which will provide stability in the storm. The wise person will build on the sayings of Jesus and be obedient to His Word. --Illustrating the Gospel of Matthew, by James E. Hightower Jr. GOLDEN TEXT NOTES: Being a follower of Christ is more than just professing obedience to Him. It requires action: doing the will of God. A personal relationship with Christ is the beginning of all good work. Individuals may deceive other people with their profession of obedience. However, no one fools Christ. Under His eyes all disguises must drop off, and individuals will be known for what they really are. Everything we do, sort of doing the will of God, is merely saying, Lord, Lord! Putting the sayings of Christ into action is the only way to build a Christlike life. We must learn to do our Fathers will here on earth so that one day me may enter into that blessed place where everyone does His will, lovingly and perfectly.
