EXAM SUCCESS SECRET: How to quickly remember whatever you study #iSucceed Tip 9: Use visual aids to study; the brain works mainly with images not texts ********************* REFLECTING ON IT: The brain’s primary language is imagery, not text; it receives, processes, stores, recalls, and communicates information as images. So the fastest way to effectively engage the brain is to create mental and physical images for the information you’re trying to learn. This way, you will remember many things faster and retain them for longer because images are able to summarize large information easily and effectively ********************* BRINGING IT HOME: 1. Always use your imagination to give mental images to what you study by trying to connect things in your mind which seem unconnected 2. Use visual aids such as drawings, charts, graphs, connecting lines, pictures etc. to explain and summarize important or large information during study. 3. For instance, instead of writing “We travel either by air or land or sea”, just draw a circle labeled ‘Travel’ and link it with three smaller circles labeled ‘Air’, ‘Land’ and ‘Sea’. ********************* DAILY TAKE HOME: While in college, I always used visual aids to study my class notes. This meant that my notes were usually cladded with different drawings, charts, lines and graphs which helped to summarize much of the information contained in the note. Amazingly, whenever I glanced at any of those images, I could easily remember the whole concept behind them and also explain them in my own words. Moreover, many of my classmates became fond of borrowing my note to read. I remember one of them once said, “Of course my note is complete, but all these extras that Godwin does in his notes really help me understand and remember my own notes.” *********************
