EXCEPTIONAL LIFE DAILY DEVOTIONAL TUESDAY JULY 8TH REMOVE THE GRAVE CLOTHES – Pst. Ose Imiemohon John 11:43-44 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth! 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, Loose him, and let him go. The Hebrew meaning of the name “Lazarus” is the one who God helps”. Jesus demonstrated the essence of this name Lazarus, when He raised him from the dead. He overpowered the grip of death over Lazarus with His resurrection power. However, when Lazarus came out of the tomb, he was still bound hands and foot with grave clothes. Figuratively, grave clothe speaks of bondage or an internal struggle with negative thoughts and attitude. Jesus delivered Lazarus from death. But the Spectators at the tomb saw a man struggling with strips of burial clothes saturated with the smell of death. The “grave clothes” were visible proofs of Lazarus’ past. It completely obscured the reality of what Jesus had done in his life. The grip of death had no legal hold over Lazarus; but physically he was struggling with evidences from the grave – his past. Are you struggling with certain habits that make you feel guilty? Do you feel helpless sometimes under the weight of these habits? Can you relate with Lazarus’ struggle with issues that contradict your true identity in Christ? Do you sometimes wish people get to know who you are inside? Uncontrolled feelings can wrap up your life like grave clothes and totally hide your true personality. You must bring your thoughts (the parent force of all feelings) under the authority of the word of God. Uncontrolled feelings will prevent you from enjoying any meaningful relationship with anyone. Especially when you are married, you must remove grave clothes! Do not attempt to clean the clothes by justifying what happened to you in the past. God is telling you to remove the clothes. You have outgrown them. They are not meant for you anymore”. Did you notice Jesus spoke to those standing by to remove grave clothes from Lazarus? The people that unwrapped the burial clothes from the body of Lazarus, represent the people you listen to constantly. Their words will either entangle or detangle you. There is no middle ground in this matter. You are responsible for the choice of those who speak into your life. Like clothes you must know the ones that fit your person. MEDITATE ON: Gal 5:1 IN [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off].
