EXCERPT FROM THE PROSECUTION NEVER RESTS by Joseph Liss LL. B. - In Numbers 31:1-2, God incites the army of Moses to avenge the Israelites against the Baal-worshiping Midianites for leading Israel into immorality and idolatry. The ensuing massacre is recorded thus: And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses, and slaughtered every male. They slaughtered the Kings of Midian with the rest of the slain, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian, and they also slaughtered Balaam the son of Beor with the sword. (Numbers 31:7-8) However, out of compassion, the women and children were spared. This merciful restraint by his soldiers so enraged Moses that (with God on his side as his military adviser and chief aider and abettor) he gave the following orders as recorded in Numbers 31:17-18: Now, therefore, KILL every male among the little ones, and KILL every woman who has known man by lying with him. But all the young girls who have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. *(In this connection, and according to Numbers 31:35, the army of Moses had their pick of 32,000 MIDIANITE VIRGINS.) I take it for granted that the jury (you the reader/s) feels the same abhorrence as I do upon reading the text of this profoundly barbaric exhibit. Thus, our common humanity immediately and instinctively tells us that such an atrocity could hardly be the act of a good and loving God - or, more exactly, an appointed prophet and messenger of God as evidenced by Numbers 16:28: And Moses said, Hereby you shall know that the LORD sent me to do all these works, AND IT HAS NOT BEEN OF MY OWN ACCORD. By way of footnote, God is the military adviser to the following bloodthirsty and mass-murdering prophets: Moses, Joshua, Samuel, Gideon, David (King & of David & Goliah fame), Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Hosea, Amos, Zechariah, Zephaniah. Micah, and many others. Hence, Nietzsches savage verdict: One does well to put on gloves when reading the Bible; the proximity of so much filth forces one to do this. [15]
