!! EXERCISE TIP !!! Lying Triceps Extensions (EZ Curl Bar) Along with dips, lying triceps extensions (Skull Crushers) are one of the best compound exercises for the triceps; but a lot of people perform the move incorrectly. To fully engage the triceps start with your arms back slightly so they’re about 60 degrees to the floor. Most people start where their arms are at 90 degrees which takes the tension off of the triceps and places the load on the elbows. This can increase the risk of joint pain and chance of injury. With the slight angle in place when you bend your elbows the weight will come down below the back of your head, giving a greater stretch to the triceps. When you extend your elbows, you can still lock out the weight for a full range of motion and a complete contraction. Your triceps will remain engaged because your arms remain at a 60 degree angle rather than a 90 degree vertical. You may have to drop your weight/poundages at first, but you will definitely feel the difference with the slight angle strictly adhered to. For even greater engagement combine this move with a close grip bench press immediately after.
