"Each novel that I read reveals more about the consequences of my decision to enlist. I don’t know yet if all war fiction is in direct opposition to what it depicts, but it’s comforting knowing that my feelings of cowardice, isolation and betrayal are not mine alone, nor are they soldiers’ alone.
