Each of Us Count With God Simon Peter climbed aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn.-John 21:11 --What is the meaning of the precise fish count: 153? I do not know if there is a hidden meaning in the number. I do know that it was a splendid catch. The fishermen were disciples of Jesus and had returned to their trade after a three-year absence. After an unsuccessful night of fishing, a suggestion from someone standing on the shore resulted in a net full of fish. When Peter and the others returned to shore, they found a great surprise. Not only was the Master Fisherman alive, but he had a fire built and breakfast waiting for them. The specific count - 153 large fish - is reassuring for me. Not one fish was overlooked; each was important and was counted. This scripture passage reassures me that not one of us is ever overlooked by God. In fact, God is waiting to welcome us and to feed us. Each of us counts with God. Thank you, God, for your word, which speaks to us the blessed assurance of your love in Jesus Christ. Amen.
